Annual Report 2006

Annual Report for Conference 2006

Beginning in June 2005 Janet Ray served as the president of TMTA until our election of officers in May 2006. During Mrs. Ray’s tenure the following activities and meetings were held. The following monthly meetings were held:

  • September: Welcome Reception for the New Year
  • October: Discussion on the goals of TMTA
  • November: “Demonstration of Early Instruments” presented by FSU music faculty member Karyl Louwenaar
  • December: Annual Christmas luncheon
  • January: “Jazz Review” presented by Dr. Ruben Malan
  • February: Masterclass presentedby FSU music faculty member James Nalley
  • March: “Brainstorming on Teaching Concepts”
  • April: No monthly meeting
  • May: End of the year luncheon and installation of new officers.

Student activities included a TMTA Honors Recital in which each member could recommend two students to perform at a local retirement center. Christmas at the Mall is an event in which each member may reserve a block of time for his or her students to perform holiday music at Governor’s Square Mall. February was our annual Sonata/ Sonatina competition. March was DSD, DSD Honors recital, Concerto competition, and Community Service Award recommendations. April brought our Summer Music Camp auditions for music scholarships for three students.

A donation of $500 was made to the National Disaster Relief Fund for MTNA.

During the summer of 2006 the Executive Board of TMTA had a planning session for the 2006-2007 Year. The committee made the decision to have less meetings; therefore, allowing teachers to have more time to prepare for student events. Attached is a copy of the calendar for the year with all the activities for our association. Our opening meeting was held at the home of Marc Hebda. At this meeting each chairperson gave a review of the requirements and goals of each of our student events with the require paperwork to be completed by each participate. Our yearbooks are spiral notebooks where each member has one place in which to keep all of the papers that pertain to any event that TMTA sponsors. The goal is to strive to avoid the last minute rush as to where each member will get the necessary forms. The meeting was well attended and very informative.

The biggest challenge for TMTA this year will be serving as the host association to the Southern Division Meeting January 12 – 15, 2007 at FSU College of Music.
